My Life Story.

Mariam Batwawula

My name is Batwawula Mariam. I have just graduated from Uganda Christian University with a Bachelor of Nursing Science. Currently I work with Life Link Hospital in Namugongo

I came from a humble background where I grew up with a single father who died in 2002 while I was in primary four, my paternal uncle started taking care of me, unfortunately, he was not financially stable and he had 5 siblings to take care of, he paid my fees late until he could not manage because of the many responsibilities he had.

We started selling steamed maize and this was done alongside the road in the evening after school, however money generated from maize was also not enough for my school fees and scholastic materials. After my primary level my uncle planned to marry me off. He identified a man who would soon be coming home to bargain for my bride price. Upon learning about his plan, I ran away from home to my friend’s place who had a child sponsored by Concern for the Girl Child (CGC). She helped and paid my school fees up to S2 and later advised me to apply in CGC. I qualified for the program in 2008 and I joined in S3 at Kalinabiri Secondary School.

Since then my life has never been the same!! I have never lacked school fees and scholastic materials. I completed my A level and finally University in October 2016 with a second class upper degree in Nursing am a very successful lady today since success depends on one’s personal judgment. I can now take care of my other sisters and relatives. It’s upon this background that I really thank CGC for their endless efforts and support to make me what I am today. My sincere gratitude comes with a tear of joy long live CGC and our beloved Donor Dr. Ann Hayes.
